The Washington Commanders (3-4) are entering this matchup trying to recover from a difficult stretch. After a 44-22 loss to Dallas last week, the Commanders have lost 3 of their last 4 games, which has raised questions about the offense and the defense. Washington's defense, once their pride, has somehow given up points in consecutive weeks, while their offense has been inconsistent, with backup Marcus Mariota taking the place of injured Jayden Daniels.

It is a tale of two drastically different quarterbacks. On one sideline is Patrick Mahomes, the closest thing we have to a magician on a football field. He was truly remarkable in a 286-yard, three-touchdown game against Las Vegas that exhibited both his arm talent and his ability to throw while feeling pressure. Mahomes has built an almost telepathic connection with Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce, and this Kansas City air attack is incomparable to any other in the NFL.

On the other sideline, Marcus Mariota will try to either match or exceed the great Mahomes. Mariota showed a mix of mobility and leadership but struggled to find consistency in accuracy and timing. With Deebo Samuel and Terry McLaurin both being question marks for the Commander's passing attack, this means Washington will need to depend on creative offensive calls to gain offensive consistency while keeping it alive with Mariota's legs.

There is a reason the Chiefs are so dominant at Arrowhead—they have won 11 straight home games against the NFC, usually by getting an early lead and leaving the game with their foot on the gas. Mahomes' time with Kelce is amazing, and the deep threat Marquise Brown has helped keep the defense always stretched thin.

There is resilience for Washington despite their struggles. The Commanders have covered the spread in eight of their last nine road games against AFC opponents. The offensive was supplemented by flashes of brilliance from Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Jaylin Lane, giving the offense a youthful pulse, but consistency has been difficult to find, and Arrowhead isn't the place that most teams find it.

Kansas City is listing Kareem Hunt (knee) and Trey Smith (back) as questionable, and Omarr Norman-Lott is still out. Luckily, their offensive core still exists, and the defense appears to be more cohesive than ever.
